The Memez Tag and the GIF-y Love Tag

Hi everyone!

I hope you’ve had a great week! I can’t believe we only have a few more days until Christmas; I’m so excited!! 🎄❄️ Christmas is my absolute favorite holiday, and I’m not gonna lie – I’m also really looking forward to having a break from university 😅

Let me tell you: This week, the workload really hit me in full force. I mean, it was my own fault, I guess. I wasted an entire day last week reading The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue (not that I regret it 😁), and on Sunday, my best friend and I went on a hike that she had given me as a birthday present. It was only supposed to last four and a half hours, but let’s just say that the path that our map and my phone (when we ended up distrusting the map) swore was there certainly wasn’t! At least I highly doubt we were supposed to wade through a swamp of mud that went up past our ankles. And also, by the end of the hike, it had gotten so foggy that we had absolutely no clue where we were in relation to our surroundings. Oh, and then there’s the fact that we’re little children at heart and had to climb literally every rock we could find [see picture for evidence]… So yeah, instead of those four and a half hours, it took us more than six 😂 Oops… But since Germany has just gone back under lockdown, I guess it’s a good thing that we made the most of being able to see each other while we still could. The only downside is that I’m now EXTREMELY behind on homework, so if you’re wondering why I have read and commented on a lot fewer of your posts than usual, you now know the reason 🙈 I’ll catch up next week, I promise!

Anyway, since my insane workload has prevented me from writing the Addie LaRue review I originally wanted to post today, I thought we would go with a tag instead! Or actually, two of them! Nehal over at Books and Words and Tiction at Fictionally Crazy both tagged me to do the Memez Tag, and what’s more, they even came up with their own original tag, the GIF-y Love Tag, which they also tagged me for. Honestly, guys, I am honored to be one of the first ever taggees in an original tag 🤗 And I absolutely love memes and GIFs (which is pronounced /dʒɪf/, just so you know), so these are right up my alley!

The Memez Tag

Rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Add the tag photo.
  3. Add a meme for all the topics given.
  4. Nominate at least 5 bloggers.
  5. Add the link of the creator (Aaliya’s Nook)
  6. And don’t forget to put the following tags: #thememeztag, #amemeforeverything

A HARRY POTTER MEME

Harry Potter - Imgflip

Need I say more? I think you all know how I feel about the adaptations of my favorite books by now 🙈 And this meme encapsulates just one of the many reasons why…

A BOOKISH MEME

50 Hilarious Memes You'll Relate To If You Love Books | Book humor, Book memes, Book nerd problems

Why is this sooo relatable?? This is exactly why I still haven’t read The Empire of Gold and The Dragon Republic yet 😂 “Just one more chapter” never goes as planned where I am concerned, and I just know these books are going to give me huge amounts of sleep deprivation! Because once I’ve started, it’s not like I’d be able to sleep without knowing how the story ended, either – I’d be up all night thinking about it! So obviously, pulling an all-nighter is basically the only reasonable option 😉

A COVID-RELATED MEME

EDITORIAL: CORONAVIRUS MEMES — Because laughter is contagious, too (photos) | Free | annistonstar.com

Hahaha 🤣 – unfortunately, there’s definitely some truth to this one, too. And not just because of the toilet paper shortage. Grocery shopping is making me even more uncomfortable now than in used to. You know back in pre-pandemic times, when some people would just block a whole aisle with their cart and then you’d get all flustered because you couldn’t decide on whether to just squeeze past or figure out a way to best interrupt and say you needed to pass? So then you ended up walking around half the store to go into the aisle from the other side, only to find that the cart had now been moved to block that? No? I guess it’s just me, then 🙈

But anyway, the pandemic has increased my fear of people a hundred-fold… Why do all of them suddenly feel the need to stand so freaking close to me?! And to show off their noses for the entire world to see?! Because I can’t think of any other reason why those shouldn’t be covered by masks. Grocery shopping has truly become life-threatening!

ANIMAL MEME

The best owls memes :) Memedroid

Why does this meme-maker know me so well? 😅 Honestly, I struggle with the simplest adult tasks. I’d rather walk an extra 10 minutes than parallel park anywhere, especially on hills. I hate calling the dentist to make my own appointments. I am absolutely clueless when it comes to taxes, so I just do what everyone around me tells me to. When I think about the fact that my parents were already married when they were about my age and had me a few years later, I’m really starting to think their adulting genes must have skipped me somehow…

SPOOKY MEME

Spooky Meme?

I’m not sure whether this meme counts as being spooky, but I just had to go with it! It basically describes my sense of humor in a nutshell 😁 If you’ve read some of my more sarcastic posts, you probably already know I have a really weird sense of humor, but trust me – it’s way worse in real life.

CARTOON-CHARACTER-RELATED MEME

The true power of the avatar : memes

Gosh, how I wish this weren’t so accurate… One of my friends once said that she always has a “motivation problem” until she gets a “time problem”, and let’s just say she probably isn’t the only one 😅

SUBJECT MEME

Obviously, I couldn’t just go with one meme here, I had to pick one for both of my subjects!

Math, of course, is the best subject to ever have graced humanity 😇 And it is so wonderfully logical that I just can’t fathom how so many people can make this mistake! At least when working with real numbers. Because Regina is quite wrong – in fields of characteristic 2, this equation holds! But my none of my Algebra students ever seem to be able to remember this, either, so I guess something about binomial formulas is just inherently difficult for people to grasp 🙄

And the English meme – I hope that one is self-explanatory 😂 Thank god I’m really good at remembering visual things, or I’d never be able to spell properly.

IRONY MEME

Irony GIFs | Tenor

Remember how I told you I had a weird sense of humor?

EXAM MEME

C’mon, people! I just don’t get how you can NOT do this. They never give you enough paper during exams!!! Forget one extra sheet, I usually end up needing about ten! At least during English exams. (I mean, have you seen the length of my blog posts? 😅)

RANDOM MEME

The german opposite of "Umfahren" (running something over) is "Umfahren" (drive around something). Good luck mastering this language. - VISUAL STATEMENTS® in 2020 | Glück zitate, Witzige sprüche, Urkomische zitate

One of my American friends showed this to me, but look – this meme is obviously being a bit harsh here. There’s no way you can mix these verbs up! The first one is stressed on the “um” and the second one on “fahr”. And if you put them in a sentence, they have to be split differently, for example:

Ich fahre den Weihnachtsbaum um. (I run the Christmas tree over.)

Ich fahre um den Weihnachtsbaum. (I drive around the Christmas tree.)

And the past tense forms are different, too:

Ich habe den Weihnachtsbaum umgefahren. (I ran the Christmas tree over.)

Ich habe den Weihnachtsbaum umfahren. (I drove around the Christmas tree.)

See? Totally different. German is such an easy language, I don’t see what people are complaining about 😉

And now, onto tag #2…

The GIF-y Love Tag

The Rules:

  1. Thank the person who tagged you and leave a link to their blog.
  2. Mention the creators (Tiction and Nehal).
  3. Make a post, do list the rules.
  4. Use the tag #gif-y-love and choose a GIF you love for each of the provided prompts.
  5. Tag at least 5 people.
  6. That’s it! Make sure you laugh a lot in the process, too.

I’m Bored 😪

Angry Season 4 GIF by The Office

You know what? I’d actually love to be bored right now, because being bored requires having free time!! I’m so busy right now, I don’t think I’ve been bored in years 🤣 (Unless you count certain lectures… Gosh, that HTML programming one was a nightmare 🙄 – I am perfectly capable of reading a script to myself, I don’t need to attend a course to have someone else do it for me!)

Current Mood 😶

working from home GIF

😍😍😍 I love my bed. **Sighs dreamily** Christmas break is going to be so fantastic! I swear I’m not getting up any sooner than 9 a.m., like, ever.

Reading 📚

There’s great news for people who prefer real books over e-readersNaomi Baron, American University linguistics professor and author conducted a series of cross-cultural studies with her colleagues asking college students around the world if they...

Wrong. Books are way better than a TV in your head! Everything is so much more vivid! 🤗

Sarcastic 🙂

star trek sarcastic laugh GIF

Sometimes, I do feel a little sorry for those people who, like Commander Data, will never truly understand the true art that is sarcasm. Obviously, if you’re doing it right, you have to explicitly tell other people when you’re using sarcasm to make sure that they get it, and really exaggerate the inflection of your voice. Or, if you’re writing, make sure you’re using a disclaimer on all of your posts to make sure people understand it’s supposed to be sarcastic. Though of course, sarcasm is overrated anyway. I have certainly never written any sarcastic posts on this blog.

Spongebob 😁

Frustrated Patrick Star GIF by SpongeBob SquarePants

Now that Germany is back under full lockdown and all my university classes are online again, I truly relate to Patrick in this one. Though speaking of Spongebob – I recently learned that Squidward is not called “Squidward” in German, but “Thaddäus Tentakel”. I mean, WHAT?! And because I didn’t know this, I ended up narrowly missing first place in a Skribbl game against my friends. Seriously?! I am even more offended because thanks to my best friend in Florida, who took pity on my family not having a TV, I actually have quite the extensive Spongebob knowledge from watching endless episodes over at her place.

Angry 😤

kitten playing GIF

The thing is, whenever I’m angry, I’m kind of like this cat 😅 My anger is completely pointless, because most of the time, people don’t even notice I’m mad at them. I mean, does this cat look like a raging tiger to you? No, of course not. And I’m the same way, minus the cuteness. I might be simmering on the inside, but I’ll appear perfectly cordial on the outside. Which might be why no one ever takes my complaints seriously. 😕

Scared 😲

Scared Season 5 GIF by Broad City

This is me whenever I watch a horror movie. Or any movie where something remotely creepy happens, for that matter. My friends and sister now refuse to watch these types of movies with me because they say I’m a danger to their eardrums… But that’s totally exaggerated – after all, my brothers don’t mind watching scary stuff with me, and they have eardrums, too. (But then again, my brothers, like me, have a much lower tolerance level when it comes to scariness than my sister and my friends do…)

Laughing 🤣

not funny nba GIF

Remember that weird sense of humor I mentioned? Well, often, it leads to me laughing hysterically at stuff, and then I look around and realize no one else thinks it’s funny. So then I very quickly have to compose myself in order to appear at least somewhat normal… This GIF actually describes conversations with me quite accurately 😁

So yeah – that was it for today! I know both of these tags said to tag five people, but thanks to my humongous behindness concerning tags, I’ve been tagging so many people lately that I thought I’d take it a bit easier this time. So instead of tagging five people for each tag, I’m going to tag five people in total, and you can pick whether you’d like to do both of these tags, just your favorite, or none of them 😉

I tag:

Ahaana @ Windows to Worlds (She’s pretty new to blogging, but somehow already a pro? Seriously, Ahaana, how did you get this good so fast? Also, I know you’ve already been tagged in this, but since I don’t think you’ve done it yet (Correct me if I’m wrong! 😅), I thought I’d add to the pressure 😁 I’d love to see your take on this!)

Alissa @ Alissa’s Booktopia (I only just discovered her blog, but she made quite the impression on me with this post on how the book community has influenced her reading habits – it seriously got me thinking!)

Klaus @ Klaus Videnz (Klaus, I know you’re not really one for tags, but I thought I’d mention you here so people can go and find your amazing book reviews 😉 So while you’re free to ignore that I tagged you, I’d say my followers definitely shouldn’t!)

Nefeli @ BiblioNebula (Since I’m very behind on things you’ve tagged me in, Nefeli, I thought it’d only be fair to return the favor 😉 And besides, guys – Nefeli’s blog is one of my absolute favorites! 😊 She writes some of the most creative posts out there, such as this one about all her criminal bookish ways, so just trust me and go read them!)

Pilar @ The Bookworm Shelf (She’s currently doing blogmas and somehow manages to write an amazing post every day, while I’m sitting over here across the globe struggling to write a mediocre one weekly 😅 Honestly, Pilar, you have no idea how impressed I am!!)

So overall: In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I highly recommend you check all of these blogs out!

Also – I’d love to know what you thought of my answers! Which meme was your favorite? Which one did you relate to the most? I would love to know!

I am laughing so hard right now! I loved your answers Naemi! Also, I loved the plot twist meme and it is so accurate! But sometimes I have to shut the book and sleep cause I share my room with my sister😐😐. Also, that angry cat’s really cute❤

Trust me, you’re not alone on that 😂😂 I’m pretty sure there are also a couple of September tags that I haven’t done yet 😅 So no pressure to get to this one – I completely understand! But you’re very welcome for the tag, and I’m so happy you liked the GIFs! 😊

Omgg thank you so much for tagging me and for your kind words! You’ve absolutely made my days, I’m glad you liked the Let’s discuss post!! My favourite meme is the irony one haha, I’m never gonna get that image out of my head!

You’re very welcome! I obviously needed to get other people to read that post, so I had to tag you 😉 And I’m so glad I’m not alone in thinking the irony meme is hilarious! 😂 I mean, I guess whoever made it also shares my sense of humor, but it’s nice to see other people appreciate it, too!

The irony of you explaining how easy German is by showing us how difficult your grammar is 😂😂 Honestly the grammar is why I realized I was never going to be able to speak German fluently. If I make a sentence longer than 3 words, I need to write it down first and triple check everything 😅

And your Hunger Games covid-meme is very relatable! I’ve gotten much better at planning my trips to the store so that I don’t need to go there too often. You never know how many idiots are shopping at the same time as you. And the blocked aisles? The number of times I’ve waited for someone to move when a third person has just swooped in and squeezed by is unreal 😩 People keep their distance until it’s an inconvenience.

😂😂😂 Well, in all seriousness, I am actually really glad that I already know how to speak German and don’t have to learn it! Especially now that I’m learning Russian and am starting to see how difficult speaking languages with complicated grammar can be 😅 Though we will still understand people who mess our grammar up, so I wouldn’t worry too much about not doing it perfectly when you speak 😉

And gosh, yes! I totally know what you mean – those third people who swoop in when you’ve been waiting to enter an aisle for ages might even be more annoying than the ones blocking it in the first place 🙄 I guess shopping just isn’t for me 😂

      Liked by 1 person

      • Line says:

Haha I envy you Germans so much for not having to learn it! And yes, I know I shouldn’t be afraid it isn’t perfect and you also learn more by just speaking it even if it’s wrong. But I’m just too much of a perfectionist. I can’t say something unless I’m absolutely sure it’s correct. I used to hate English for that reason too 😅

        Liked by 1 person

        • abookowlscorner says:

Oh, trust me, I get you 😁 My perfectionism always gets in the way of me speaking more, too 🙈 I keep telling myself I’ll learn way more if I just start talking without overthinking everything, but sometimes, that’s way harder than you would expect 😅 But I have gotten a lot better at this than I used to be, so I suppose there’s hope!

We pronounced it wrong, where can I go die? 😂
And ahhhhh, that bookish meme is just oh so relatable! It’s always like oh please just one more chapter what would be the harm? But I always end up finish it late a the night😂
And the German one too! In French too, the verb for upload is telecharger and the verb for download is Telecharger, the only difference being that the T in the one for download is capital, and we even asked the teacher how we’d recognise it in a verbal convo and she’s like that’s your job not mine!😞🤦🏻‍♀️
And, loved all those GIFs too, especially the angry one, that’s so me too!😂
Thank you so much for doing both GIF-y Love and The Memez Tag!🤩

Well, I think the GIF/JIF pronouncers are pretty evenly split, so I guess you’re in good company 😉 But I was very satisfied to read that the creator agrees with how I’ve always pronounced it 😁 However, it’s actually really funny if you go research this topic – there are so many intense online discussions about it; even major newspapers got involved and the articles get very heated 😂😂😂

Also, I’m so glad I’m not the only one who can’t resist reading another chapter… and another one… and another one, even when it’s already really late at night 😅

And I didn’t know that about uploading and downloading in French – I just thought that they were both télécharger, but I never knew there was a difference in capitalization 😅 Though I guess in verbal conversation you’d just have to know from context? I always think it’s fascinating to learn about these things, though! I’ve actually been using both of the German “umfahren” all my life and never realized that they might cause a problem for foreigners – they’re just stressed so differently that I never even considered that you might be able to mix them up, I never even made any connection between them 😂 So when I saw that meme, I thought it was hilarious!

So yeah – thanks again for tagging me! I had so much fun with both of these! 😊

      Liked by 1 person

      • Tiction says:

        Oh, you’re not alone!
And yeah, we’d have to know from the context it’s hard😞
Same goes for Chinese, like everything may mean differently there depending on how you pronounce it and with how much pitch and stress, I got frustrated real hard when I tried to learn it😂
        And my pleasure!🤩

I love your posts Naemi!!! They’re always so fun 😆 All of these memes are amazing. And I do agree with the maths one. I don’t why some people think it’s so hard to understand 👀 What I didn’t understand that much were the German verbs 😬 They’re a little confusing… 😅

Believe me, you’re not alone on the supermarket fear. All of a sudden it feels like everyone stands so near to each other and don’t even bother wearing their masks properly 🤦🏽‍♀️

I can’t wait to do this tag!! 😆😆

    Liked by 1 person

    • abookowlscorner says:

Aww, thanks, Pilar! ❤ And I’m glad you could relate to the math meme! 😁 I honestly think that a large part of people’s fear of math stems from them already believing it’s difficult before they even try to solve a problem… If math had less of a bad rep, surely more people would love it! 😊

And as for the German verbs, I think most non-native speakers would probably find them confusing 😉 Because it certainly is true that our verbs for driving around something and running something over are spelled the exact same way 😁 But the way they are stressed and used in a sentence are so different that Germans would never mix them up – which I suppose is even more horribly confusing to anyone trying to learn our language 😂

And let’s hope that people will eventually learn to wear their masks properly and keep their distance, so we can go shopping in peace again! 😆

Also, I can’t wait to see your answers to this! I’m sure you’ll bless us with some pretty amazing memes/GIFs 🤗

I remember growing up many of the older kids would tell us about how hard math would become and we were all so scared! But I think most of those opinions were very misguiding 👀

I’ve always been intrigued about German. One of my friends is fluent in it and she has tried to explain different things to me in the past, but I’m always confused afterwards. I do try though 😅

I’m so glad you could relate, Abby! ❤

Honestly, my level of saltiness regarding that one HP scene is unreal… 😂 So when I saw that prompt, I just knew I had to find a meme relating to my movie trauma 😁

And yes – the cat cuteness is off the charts, isn’t it? 😻 Then again, you can really never go wrong with cat pictures as far as I’m concerned… I’ll love them the minute I set eyes on them! 😁

This is such a funny post! Your hiking adventure sounds perfect to me. Getting lost in the woods is part of the fun!

Thank you so much for your kind words and for tagging me in these fun tags, though I’m afraid I have to disagree with you on the pronunciation of GIF. It’s pronounced /ɡɪf/ and there is nothing anyone can say to change my mind! 😁 That said, all these memes are so relatable!

Grocery stores are truly hell to be in these days, I’m glad I’m not the one doing the shopping in our house. As for adulting, I guess I don’t have those genes either because I also can’t do any of these things you mentioned (at least not without crying first). I’m laughing so hard at the irony one, it’s my exact brand of weird joke.

Your current mood gif is my mood all day every day. There’s no better feeling than being in bed, especially after a long day. The Spongebob one is also extremely relatable; I think about throwing my laptop out the window at least once a day now with the online classes.

Thanks, Nefeli! I agree – getting lost (or thinking we were lost, anyway), was definitely one of the best parts of the hike! 😁 Though I will say that by the end, when our muscles were already pretty sore, we were almost like little kids in regards to how we were whining about wanting to go home 😂 But it definitely made for a good story to reminisce about in the future! 😂

And although your GIF pronunciation is obviously wrong, I can’t wait to see what you come up with for this tag! The fact that you laughed at that irony meme and agree with my shopping/adulting/sleeping/laptop-anger-managment habits is definitely already very promising 😉
