Emoji Quiz Answers and a Quick Check-In

Happy Friday, everyone!

No, I’m not intentionally spoiling you with two posts today. Well, I guess I kind of am, but I really wanted to write a review for A Little Life (a.k.a. the saddest book in existence ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ), and it felt weird to also include the answers to my Can You Guess the Books from the Emojis quiz within that post. But since I promised to deliver those today, I decided I’d just give you a quick heads up separately. Which is why you’re also getting this short excuse of a post ๐Ÿ˜‰

Before I get into the answers though: In case it’s not obvious from me writing this, I am not dead ๐Ÿ˜… Quite a few of you apparently saw the horrific floods we’ve had in Germany on the news and were kind enough to reach out to ask how I’m doing… So in case any of you are still worried: I am completely fine! Thankfully, the areas of Germany my family and I live in were barely affected by the floods, so this past week has been pretty normal for me. I’ve recovered from my vaccine, read a ton of books (๐Ÿ˜Š), and graded lots of exams (๐Ÿ˜ฉ), so my life has honestly been quite boring.

However, as grateful as I am to be okay, seeing the destruction the floods left behind and knowing how many people lost their lives has left me beyond shocked. To everyone from the affected areas: I really hope you are okay, and my heart goes out to those of you who lost their homes, belongings, and loved ones. I can’t even imagine what you must be going through right now โค๏ธ

Also, to anyone interested in helping: I think the easiest way to donate from abroad is through the organization Aktion Deutschland Hilft because they seem to be one of the few non-profits who have an English website… I’ve gone ahead and linked that in case any of you want to contribute to relief efforts.

But on a happier note… let’s get back to the quiz!

Thanks again to everyone who participated; I hope you guys had fun and weren’t too frustrated! Here are the answers:

This was supposed to be Divergent by Veronica Roth. I can see why some of you thought it might be A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, but I hope the Ferris wheel and the train helped clear the confusion up!

Yes, this one is To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. I mean, look at all those letters!

Anyway, I hope that clears things up! Hopefully, these make sense now ๐Ÿ˜…

With six points each, our winners are:

  • Abby: You weren’t wrong about A Christmas Carol! And I don’t know any other books involving Korean American girls going to Scotland either, so that was some pretty sound logic ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿป
  • Line: I would have been very surprised if you hadn’t recognized Assassin’s Apprentice – I was actually counting on that ๐Ÿ˜ But I’m extremely impressed that you guessed Dorian Gray without having read it!
  • Nehal: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory would not have been enough to gain you a spot on this leaderboard, so good job recognizing Divergent, too! See, I didn’t use too many emojis at all; they provided the perfect number of clues! ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

So yeah: lots of bookish honor to you three! If you had fun and would like to do this again sometime, feel free to let me know! Other than that, I’ll see you next week!

(Unless you’d also like to read my extremely spoilery review for A Little Life, that is. I need someone to cry over this book with!)

I’m very proud to be a receiver of bookish honor! That’s all I aspire to in life. But I also hate myself because I’ve read more than just Assassin’s Apprentice ๐Ÿ˜ซ I’ve read Divergent too but apparently remember none of it because even looking at your emojis knowing that, I still can’t see it ๐Ÿ˜… I’ve read Twilight too of course and I should have gotten that one. Even more embarrassingly though, is that I’ve also read A Christmas Carol. I remember seeing the Christmas tree and thinking “I haven’t read any Christmas books. Must be some contemporary romance taking place during Christmas that I don’t know about.” ๐Ÿ˜‚ I’m happy I saved some of my honor with that Picture of Dorian Gray!

    • abookowlscorner says:

Well, other people didn’t do any better than you did and I’m sure they’ve also read their fair share of these, so I don’t think you should be too hard on yourself! You still got that bookish honor, after all ๐Ÿ˜‰ And, to be fair, my attempts at portraying the factions in Divergent through different colored blobs were probably mediocre at best ๐Ÿ˜‚ I was really surprised someone actually guessed that one!

I do relate to you not recognizing A Christmas Carol though. Some of my friends and I have a group chat where we send each other these types of emoji versions of books and movies, and I’m always really sure I’ve never read or seen them. And then it turns out I actually do know the story, but that it was just something completely different than I was expecting! ๐Ÿ˜… So I think you actually did pretty well! (I actually haven’t read very many holiday romances, either. I can only think of ‘In a Holidaze’ right now, and I disliked that too much for me to mention it here…)

Also, I was all set for that Danish comment I’d have to use google translate on, so thanks for sparing me ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜„
