The Randomness Tag

Happy Friday, everyone!

After a thoroughly chaotic work week, I’m not really on top of anything right now, so randomness it is! Who doesn’t love a bit of chaos every once in a while?

(Let’s just quietly ignore that I said I would give you my final Realm of the Elderlings review today πŸ™ƒ That unedited mess of a conclusionless draft does not deserve to see the light of day yet, and since I am currently very sleep-deprived, I don’t trust myself to whip it into coherence. You’ll get it once I feel less zombie-like, I promise!)

So yeah, to give my overtaxed brain a bit of a break, I figured I might as well write something fun and quick while simultaneously chipping away at my embarrassingly large backlog of tags. (Seriously, you don’t even want to know how many there are at this point πŸ˜…) And The Randomness Tag, which was created by Evin, Arwa, Maggie, and Maya @ Out in the Randomness… and which I was tagged for by Devangi @ Just Penning Down My Thoughts, seemed perfect for the occasion!

  • Link to the original post!
  • Thank the person who nominated you!
  • Pingback to the person who nominated you!
  • Ask YOURSELF five questions to answer!
  • Nominate as many people as you want!

Which I suppose means I still have some thanking to do: Devangi, I hereby declare myself eternally grateful for the nomination! Especially since lazy-ass me decided to take a page out of your book and generate the questions for this tag using an online random question generator.

(I need my brain cells to create lessons for my students, okay?! Why come up with questions when my computer can do the work for me? 😎)

Although, just so I can say I put a bit of effort into this, I’ve also added my own spin by pairing each question with the first song I randomly associated with it. So have fun listening and getting insights into my brain’s weird association processes!

The best way to eat bananas is to completely peel them first, throw away the peel, and then take only the inside of the banana with you. That way, you can devour it in peace, knowing you won’t have to walk all the way back to the trash can to throw the peel away!

Why is it so hard for other people to accept the superiority of this method?? 😩🍌

Apparently, shortly before I turned two, my mom needed to get something from the hardware store, and, since my dad was still at work, she decided to take me with her. The thing is, though, I was kind of obsessed with tights at the time. Like, massively obsessed. I loved the ones with colorful patterns or animals on them and thought it was a travesty to wear anything over the tights that would cover up their beauty!

However, since it was pretty cold out and my mom, who was still a fairly new parent at the time, didn’t want everyone at the hardware store staring judgily at her because she hadn’t properly dressed her kid, I was forced to put on proper pants – or trousers, for you Brits out there 😜 – over my truly glamorous tights. A travesty!! I obviously fought tooth and nail against the pants, utterly exhausting my mom, but after half an hour, I was too tired out by struggling to put up much of a fight. Or so my mom thought…

I might have been angelically well-behaved in the car, but as soon as my mom entered the hardware store, she got her come-uppance. Her toddler started screaming “ICH WILL KEINE HOSE AUF’M BAUMARKT HABEN!” (I DON’T WANT TO WEAR PANTS AT THE HARDWARE STORE!) at the top of her lungs and didn’t stop for the entire duration of the trip. And since my mom badly needed something for the house my parents were building at the time and couldn’t very well leave, that duration was rather long.

Suffice it to say – if my mom had been worried about getting stares for letting me go to the hardware store in tights, it was nothing compared to what dragging a furiously yelling toddler trying to take off her pants in public brought down upon her… My parents let me wear just tights whenever I pleased from that day forth πŸ˜‡

Academic achievements are overrated. Happiness is way more important than people thinking you’re smart and successful, so when given the chance, you should live in the moment rather than working towards your insanely perfectionistic, overachieving goals that ultimately won’t make you happy anyway.

Math. Or proofreading. Or relationship stuff.

(Although I really don’t know why people think I’m qualified for that last one! πŸ˜…)

I’m afraid I have nothing even remotely interesting to tell you here; if you want exciting scar stories, you’ll have to turn to Harry and Dumbledore. I do have plenty of unexciting scar stories, though, because I am clumsy as hell and constantly getting them! πŸ˜‚ So if you desperately want an answer to this question, here you go, I guess:

  • There’s a huge scar on my right knee from the time I tripped over my dad’s lawn mower cable when I was two and split said knee open on a rock. (Yes, lawn mower cables were still a thing in the 90s 🏑)
  • There’s a huge scar on my left knee from the time I accidentally ran into our fireplace while playing tag with my siblings when I was nine. (I was beyond thrilled to get this scar because it meant that my knees were finally symmetrical again! πŸ€—)
  • Also dating back to the age of about nine, there’s a bite-shaped scar on my stomach from the time one of my brothers decided to take revenge on me by pretending to be a shark when I refused to let him into the deepest part of our hot tub. (At the time, I was very angry that my mom wouldn’t believe my brother was solely at fault here 😀)
  • There’s a faint but noticeable scar on the bridge of my nose from the time I tried to open a door a bit too enthusiastically when I was ten. (The whole door ended up falling out of its frame and onto my face, which was every bit as painful as it sounds 😭)

I think you get the picture… Although I can proudly announce that I haven’t gotten any major scars since I became a teenager!

Anyone reading this post on a Sunday. This tag is supposed to be random, right? So it only seems fair to tag you guys randomly, too! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ˜œπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

And that was it for today! On a scale from -42 to Ο€, how nuts do you think I am for posting this? What did you think of my answers and my song choices? And how would you have answered some of the random question generator’s questions? I would love to know!

This was hilarious! I also have absolutely no exciting scar stories, but I cut my tongue on a spoon… twice… it was sharp okay! It didn’t really leave a scar though. I’m also incredibly clumsy and tend to injure myself in the dumbest ways. BUT ALSO THE SONG CHOICES ARE PERFECTION!! They were a perfect edition and Surface Pressure fits so wonderfully with not putting too much pressure on yourself (a lesson I am, unfortunately, yet to learn) so that was flawless. Adored this!!

Gosh, I’ve heard of people cutting their tongues on knives and maybe poking them with a fork, but a spoon? I guess it really was sharp! 🀣 Still, I’m totally with you in the incredibly-clumsy-and-prone-to-dumb-injuries camp, so you have my deepest sympathies!

And I’m so happy you approve of the song choices! πŸ€— Although, trust me, the not putting pressure on myself thing is still a work in progress here, too…

Ahhhhh, love this post Naemi!!! A scar I have is from basically from a dog bite, which really wasn’t a dog bite, but okay. Also, love the questions!!! Random question generator is funnnnnnnnnn

Riddhi, you can’t just tell me something like that and leave me hanging! How can you have had a dog bite that wasn’t a dog bite?! 🀯 My curiosity is peaked, so I need details!! 🀣

And lol, yes, the random question generator gave the best prompts ever! Maybe I’ll just have to use that next time someone wants Q&A questions and I’m running out of ideas… πŸ€”

Okay I’m still stuck on how someone can open a door in a way that will make it fall out of its frame πŸ€”πŸ˜‚ I only have one scar but unfortunately I did get that due to clumsiness in my teens. The cable from my laptop charger had to hang across my room at knee height so I had to trip over it at some point and when I finally did, I scratched my shin with my own toenail so now I have a scar on my shin 😬

Anyway, I loved that you shared songs for this although I’m slightly disturbed by The Pi Song… I appreciate the banana song though! πŸ˜‚ Not the opinion though. The banana itself is sticky! So sure, you don’t need to find a trash can for the peel but now you need to find a sink to wash your hands!

Well, it was the already very dilapidated door to an even more dilapidated screen porch, so I guess the hinges just weren’t in the best condition… I don’t think it would have happened with any other door, but trust me to go for the one that was potentially life-threatening!

Your scar story sounds pretty painful as well, though! Thanks for making me live in paranoia of my toenails from now on πŸ™ˆπŸ€£

And although your song appreciation is appreciated, you’re still wrong about the banana thing! I don’t know how you or all of the countless people arguing against peeling bananas completely hold your bananas, but I rarely get my hands sticky! And when I do, a sink is usually closer to me than the compost bin, so the method is still superior! πŸ˜‡

I saw the title was randomness tag but it didn’t prepare me for all the randomness to come!
Firstly, I didn’t even know there was a random question generator, but I’m glad there is πŸ˜‚
Your tights sound jazzy, I’m glad you made a point for them to be seen in all their glory!
Relationship help, now the big question is do people actually follow your advice or not?? πŸ˜… (speaking as someone whose advice gets ignored!)
That is quite a collection of scars. A bite mark is an interesting scar, I feel like it is a great opportunity to make up a story about vampires though!
I have a scar on my forehead but my most common reply is “I can’t see it”, but I promise you it’s there! I hit my head off the TV as a very young child!
    Loved this post!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I’m glad the randomness managed to exceed your expectations 😁 I was really surprised by how interesting the random question generator’s questions were, too, because this tag was also solely responsible for me discovering that was a thing!

And yes, I’d say people do actually follow my advice quite often, now that I think about it… But then again, it’s not like I’m indoctrinating them with it. When people come to me for help, it usually turns into hour-long conversations where I first listen very sympathetically to whatever the problem is and say nothing, and then follow up with questions that steer people into figuring out what it is they actually want and how to get it. I don’t really give the advice directly, but co-create it with whoever I’m talking to, so maybe that’s why they’re more inclined to listen? πŸ€”πŸ˜‚

And I love how this tag has turned into an opportunity for everyone to share their scar stories! 🀣 I’m so relieved I’m not the only pathetically clumsy person with way too many dumb past injuries around here! πŸ™ƒ

Yayyy! You finally did it! I loved how you still brought out another quirky add to the already existing idea of Random question generator by even adding songs! Your answers were absolutely fun to read❣️

I LOVE THIS AHH, the occasional dose of chaos is completely necessary!!
NOO YOU NEED THE PEEL TO EAT THE BANANA, doesn’t your hand feel so weird eating the banana without the peel?!?!?! 😭 like it’s so sticky ackkk why not just use the peel instead?!?!?😩
I’m definitely coming to you if I ever need help in math, or maybe if it’s just to sing the Pi song with you…
Adored this so much, the songs choices are ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!

AND EVERYONE KEEPS SAYING THAT! BUT YOU ARE ALL WRONG!! I have no idea why everyone but me has such mediocre banana holding skills, but I have rarely had any trouble holding the banana in such a way that I don’t have to deal with the stickiness πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ You guys are just doing it wrong! 😜

I’m glad you like the pi song, though! πŸ€—πŸ“

So this proves you were evil from a very young age…all my doubts about you have been cleared, Neigh- me (i mean, trying to take off your pants in public just so you can get things to work your way- amazing πŸ’€).
Also bwahaha why do u sound so sad about all the pending tags πŸ˜‚. You’ll get to them, and even if you don’t it’s really fine.
That banana insight you gave was very…ahem, thoughtful πŸ™‚.
Omg you pulled out an entire door what even 😳😳🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣🀣

I was one, okay? Cut me some slack!! You have to make yourself heard when grown-ups decide to ignore you because of your age! 😈😁

And we’ll have to see about those tags… People are tagging me less and less, though – maybe BECAUSE I’m so bad at doing them πŸ™ˆ – so I could potentially catch up again at some point! Maybe…

And yes, I am an expert banana peeler πŸŒπŸ˜‡

And the door was broken! I didn’t know the wood around the hinges rotted, and when I pulled, the stupid thing just fell out of its frame and onto my face. It was super painful! 😭
