Happy Friday, everyone!
I hope you’re doing well! I’ve spent most of the week working on my thesis and proofreading things for various other people, so I’m glad you guys came through with intriguing assumptions to keep me entertained! Seriously, by the time I had read a certain someone’s abstract, my belief in humanity had faded almost entirely. You just gotta love those younger siblings… ๐ Couldn’t you at least have done a spell-check before sending me that paper?
But yeah – you guys really delivered on this one! When I asked for your assumptions, I thought I might get one or two things to react to, but this actually turned out to be quite the lengthy post! So without further ado, let’s get into it! And if you want to know whose brains some of these wildly creative assumptions stem from, I’ve linked a post of theirs that I recently enjoyed ๐
Riddhi’s Assumptions
You love chocolate and cheese.
Chocolate, yes! Who doesn’t love chocolate? Especially milk chocolate with whole hazelnuts in it ๐
As for cheese, I don’t have a particularly strong emotional attachment to it ๐ I mean, there are some absolutely amazing dishes where cheese is a key ingredient, like pizza, cheese fondue, lasagna, or Kรคsespรคtzle (if you don’t know what this is, I feel truly sorry for you ๐), but I don’t actually eat cheese by itself all that much. I do like it, but I’m not as obsessed with it as with chocolate.
You aspire to write a few best-selling novels someday.
Is it that obvious? ๐ And what do you mean, I aspire to? I thought you read my bestselling novel that I published a while back? Or the beginning, at any rate – I remember Nehal being in hysterics over your comment ๐
You complain about grading papers, but you actually prefer grading them rather than taking the exam.
You clearly know me too well ๐ Yes, I begrudgingly admit that this is true. While I absolute hate grading them, taking exams is even worse! I have super bad performance anxiety and would rather correct stuff for days on end rather than take any type of test myself.
Your height is 5โ4โณ (Random, I know)
**Googles what 165 cm is in imperial units, just because some countries still refuse to accept the superiority of the metric system ๐คฆโโ๏ธ ** And it is 5’4″!! ๐คฏ Seriously, Riddhi, how did you know this? My mind is completely blown!!
You want to travel the world, but you always want to return back to your own country – Germany.
Kind of?
I definitely do want to travel the world! I would love to go to every country at some point, though realistically, this is probably not going to happen ๐ช But every continent should be doable, I hope! I always love getting to know new cultures and getting to practice my garbled foreign language skills out in the field ๐
And yes, I do love my country! ๐ฉ๐ช There are so many things here that I’m grateful for! Like our relatively stable government and economy. Free education all the way from primary school to university. A functioning universal healthcare system. The fact that people will tell you what they think directly to your face. The landscape. And our Christmas markets, our yogurt, and our bread! ๐ฅฐ Don’t laugh, but those are actually what I missed most while living abroad! And of course, most of my family lives here, so I will probably always find myself coming back.
Still, I wouldn’t rule out eventually moving somewhere else. The world is so exciting that I wouldn’t want to limit myself to one country, just because I happened to be born here!
Klaus’s Assumptions
My assumption is that you went to Hogwarts but left after you lost the Quidditch Cup Final against those Gryffindorks. That loss traumatized you so much that you decided to leave the wizarding world, break your wand, and set your broomstick on fire. You then invented the vacuum cleaner because you couldnโt stand seeing brooms anymore, and made millions of dollars with it. You used that money to destabilize the British Galleon, which is why wizards have those strange exchange rates nowadays. Thatโs actually the true reason for Brexit: the British wizarding community panicked because their currency was debased, and made Boris Johnson Prime Minister. Johnson is actually a Squib, but thatโs another story.
There is actually so much to unpack here!
First of all, Klaus, did you really just call the members of my Hogwarts house dorks? ๐ก How dare you! [Yes, I am in Gryffindor. And yes, back when I took the Pottermore test as a kid, I may have slightly adjusted my responses so that I would get Gryffindor and not Ravenclaw, because back then I was convinced Gryffindor was the best house ๐ My opinions on that have changed somewhat, but before you get mad at me, remember what Dumbledore’s wise words: It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities. Or You know, I sometimes think we Sort too soon…]
Also, you have clearly never seen me in P.E. class if you think I would ever make it onto a Quidditch team. I absolutely cannot throw things. Like, at all. I think the furthest I’ve ever thrown a ball is 26 meters. Though usually, it’s closer to nine. And before you say I could also be Keeper or Seeker, I can’t catch things, either. In fact, the only thing I might be able to do is dodge Bludgers. I have gotten remarkable good at avoiding things that are thrown at me, simply because the alternative of trying to catch them is way too terrifying to even consider.
Also, the vacuum cleaner was invented in 1908, so how old do you think I am???
I do need to know more about this Boris Johnson being a squib theory, though.
Joy’s Assumptions
Youโre an avid hiker.
I wouldn’t necessarily call it avid, but I do enjoy hiking a lot and try go at least once a month! After all, I need to stay in shape for that tour of the Alps that my best friend and I have been planning for years now! We actually wanted to go last summer, but I guess COVID had other ideas ๐ We had even bought new hiking boots and everything! On the plus side, those boots are well broken in now ๐
You love giraffes.
I don’t have any particular attachment to them, but I like all animals, so yes? [Okay, all animals except ticks. I wouldn’t mind if those vanished off the face of Earth forever ๐]
You use your phone as a bookmark and then wonder where your phone is, to only find it once you start reading your book (as you canโt find your phone).
Nope ๐ I am actually one of those people who hardly ever uses bookmarks at all and will just remember the page number!
But I do use my phone as a violin tuner and metronome, and since my music stand is right next to my bookshelves, I will often balance the phone on top of the books while I’m practicing. And then completely forget where I put it, only to find it again when I’m searching for something to read ๐
You want to make a book podcast
Most definitely not! I already struggle enough with WordPress, and all the technology involved in making a podcast would drive me nuts! Also, I always overthink everything and edit the crap out of my posts, which means that if started making a podcast, I would probably never finish because I’d be so obsessed with making it perfect ๐
Plus, I hate the sound of my own voice in recordings. I just sound so much better in my head! Does anyone else have this problem? ๐ค
You love pistachio ice cream.
Yes! Not as much as hazelnut ice cream, though.
Mary Elizabeth’s Assumptions
You love nature.
Yes! I absolutely love spending time outside, and I love learning as much about nature as I possibly can. I’m that weirdo who obsessively watches hour-long documentaries about trees or plankton. In fact, when I was little, I wanted to become a biologist and explore the Amazon Rainforest and the ocean, but I guess I got sidetracked by math somewhere along the way ๐
Youโd rather hang out with friends than by yourself.
I would not. I am very sorry, friends!! I love you all, and I do like spending time with you, but I also need my alone time! And sometimes, I really regret agreeing to go to some social event, when I could have just stayed home and read ๐คซ
Your dream job is bookstore owner or librarian.
I definitely wouldn’t want to be a bookstore owner – the stress of managing a business would kill me! I absolutely hate stuff like bookkeeping, and would cry if I had to talk to obnoxious clients who wanted to return a book even though their dog had chewed it up or the warranty has long expired…
And while I might actually enjoy being a librarian, my dream job has always been to become an author!

Ahaana’s Assumptions

I’m glad we agree on this. People who don’t like chocolate are just weird! Although I must say that Americans don’t know how to make proper chocolate and that not everything called “chocolate” is necessarily good. What is it that you guys like about those absolutely disgusting Hershey’s bars?

Haha, your goldfish memory isn’t bad! I do love animals, and currently, my family has four cats! We’ve also had lots of other pets over the years – two more cats, several mice, a hamster, three rabbits, and even two freshwater turtles. The turtles are actually still going strong, but when we moved back to Germany from the US, we couldn’t take them with us. So they spent a few years with a friend of ours, and now that they’ve gotten so big that they no longer fit in their tank, they’ve gone to live in a zoo! ๐ข๐ข

Moi’s Assumptions

As a career, you mean? Because I do still intend to pursue those author dreams! And to be honest, currently all I’m doing is writing. And thinking. Granted, it’s for my master’s thesis, which is nowhere near as exciting as a fiction novel; but hey, you can’t afford to be picky!
You love to go on long walks.
I do! Although I don’t do it nearly enough. I always get caught up in work that I still need to finish, and before I know it, it’s already dark outside! ๐

Yes and no? ๐ I mean, I do love interacting with everyone and gushing about books together! Seriously, you guys are amazing! And discovering a new person who loves the same things I do is always wonderful! ๐
But at the same time, the more people I meet, the more anxious I get… Because how can I possibly expect to keep up with all these amazing people? And then I feel like I’m letting everyone down when I don’t read their posts regularly ๐ฅ
Ariela’s Assumptions
You love to swim.
Yes! In fact, swimming is the only sport I’d say I’m actually good at! I swam competitively until I was fourteen, which is when my swim team slowly started to disband. I then had the option of going from practicing three times a week to one time with the beginner kids or five times with the absolute pros, and since I didn’t like either of those options, I eventually quit ๐ฅ But that hasn’t changed the fact that I love to swim!
You love ice cream cake.
I don’t think I’ve ever had any? ๐ But I love ice cream, and I love cake, so probably ๐
You donโt like bright pink.
Not really, no ๐ I don’t detest it as much as I used to, but it’s certainly not one of my favorite colors. And I’m still extremely bitter about my fifth-grade graduation, where some genius decided all the girls would get bright pink graduation t-shirts, while the boys got these beautiful light blue ones! ๐
You love to sing and dance.
True ๐ค I love music in all its forms, and whether it’s in choir or at home, I’ve been singing ever since I can remember. And now that I can somewhat decently accompany myself on my guitar and ukulele, it’s even more fun!
Also, I do quite enjoy ballroom dancing, even though I don’t do it that often. In my part of Bavaria, it is traditional for all students to take dance lessons together in tenth grade, so we all know the basics, and there are annual balls that my former classmates and I still go to every single year – at least when there’s no COVID. And it’s always fun to catch up with everyone and get a bit of exercise in while you’re at it!
You can speak another language.
Ja, yes, oui, ะดะฐ! I am fluent in German and English, decent at French, getting there in Russian, and can at least translate Latin ๐ I’m also dabbling in a bunch of different languages on Duolingo at the moment, so hopefully that will eventually lead to more knowledge than just being able to say “hello” ๐ In fact, I feel like I might actually be getting somewhere with Spanish, but then again, that may just be the French and Latin talking ๐คฃ And I finally taught myself how to read ํ๊ธ, which I’ve been planning on doing for years, so now all I have to do is actually start memorizing some Korean vocabulary and grammar! ๐ค
Nehal’s Assumptions

Noooo ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ Most definitely not! I am flattered that you think I have enough social skills to have given you that impression, but no. I am about as introverted as it gets.
You are pretty soft spoken and polite, but you love talking.
I’d like to think I’m soft spoken and polite, but you’ll have to ask the people who actually know me in real life what they think!
And as for the talking thing, I guess it depends? I’m usually pretty quiet and prefer listening, but if you give me the right topic – generally something nerdy, very academic, pertaining to books, philosophical, ethical or just extremely weird – you can draw me out of my shell. And then I won’t shut up and you will have to discuss this with me for hours! Also, I tend to be a lot more talkative around people I know well. If you’re a stranger, chances are I’ll just stare at you awkwardly until I get to know you.
You get upset easily.
Not really. At least I’d like to think I’m pretty easy-going! It takes a lot to truly ruffle my feathers.
However, I do take things to heart very easily, and am constantly overthinking my decisions or worrying about stuff I feel powerless to change. It’s just that other people usually don’t notice this, because I am extremely good at locking my feelings in and appearing cheerful on the outside.

When it comes to certain stuff, you can pour your heart into it to achieve it.
This is 100% accurate. I am extremely perfectionistic, so I will pour my heart and soul into almost anything I do. On the downside, this also means that I can get so caught up in perfecting things that I end up wasting a ton of time just to get that final touch just right ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Abby’s Assumptions
You were one of those kids who memorized hundreds of digits of pi for fun.
Of course not. I never memorized hundreds of digits. At the peak of my pi memorization times, I knew about 60 ๐คฃ That was when I was around twelve, I think. Now, however, I have forgotten quite a few of them and only know that the first nine digits are 3.14159265. But I have since learnt way cooler things about pi – such as how to prove that it is a transcendental number and why that shows that squaring the circle is impossible – so I don’t really mind those lost digits ๐
Being opinionated has gotten you into trouble with your teachers/professors.
Rarely. Most of my teachers actually really liked me, since I was usually a very well-behaved model student ๐ Think Hermione, except that I don’t like drawing attention to myself and usually won’t talk until someone explicitly asks me to or unless no one else does and the silence starts to get awkward.
However, there have been a few instances where I think my teachers would have liked nothing better than to chuck me out of the window. I think the most famous instance of this was the “He was the stone” incident that I described in my Lost in Translation post, but there were definitely more…
For example, I remember getting into a huge argument with my fifth-grade teacher regarding a multiple-choice problem about which instrument would be best for determining the amount of water in a bathtub. According to the teacher’s answer booklet, the correct answer was “a gallon jug”. I’m sorry, but who on Earth would actually use that? ๐ It would take forever until you’d scooped all the water up, and a lot would probably spill during the process! The answer I chose, and the one that is obviously correct, is a ruler. You just measure the depth, width, and length of the tub and then calculate the volume by multiplying them! Even if the bathtub wasn’t a perfect cuboid, the margin of error would surely be better than with that stupid jug. But my teacher didn’t see it that way, and got very angry when I refused to accept that you could only measure length, not volume, with a ruler ๐
You have time limits on your phone so you donโt procrastinate.
I should probably do this sometime ๐ But no, I don’t. However, I am actually pretty good at setting myself time limits – or a certain amount of stuff I want to get done – before I am allowed to stop working. I just prefer looking at my watch to looking at my phone, because once I have that thing in my hands, all is lost anyway ๐คทโโ๏ธ
You have immense self-control (I donโt know how you managed to stick to that book buying ban ๐ถ)
Trust me, I don’t know how I managed that, either! ๐ And I actually never thought I had amazing self-control skills, but then I took a psychology seminar on the topic of “self-regulation and intelligence” at university, where we also took some of the self-control tests we were learning about – and I actually scored pretty highly! So maybe you’re onto something here? But I also procrastinate a ton, so I would take those results with a grain of salt ๐
Youโre comfortable to be around and the atmosphere you carry with you is always friendly!
I hope so, but again, you’d have to ask the people around me to get a definitive answer!

You donโt need to be good at catching things to become a great seeker – look at how that Potter dude caught his first snitch ๐ Also, about the vacuum cleaner: Iโm pretty sure you stole a time turner before you left Hogwarts! And Gryffindors are dorks. They win the House Cup last minute every time just because some Dark Lord pops up and they defeat him. Meanwhile, honest Ravenclaws like us actually do what weโre supposed to do at SCHOOL- and we never win anything! Outrageous!

It was the same during my days there, they kept causing so much havoc all over the place… that Charlie Weasley who kept flying brooms in the inner courtyard and hiding dragon babies under his bed! And donโt get me started on his older brother! That one was even worse and yet, Dumbledore made him Head Boy just because he liked his haircut! So unfair!

Pff – I’m still with Nehal on this one! Honestly, Cho Chang sobbing her eyes out every time she stepped onto that field was way more annoying than anything the Weasley children could possibly have done. At least they kept things exciting! And it’s so typically Ravenclaw to whine about losing the House Cup when they did everything by the book – when a Dark Lord turns up, you have to act! What are you studying all that stuff for, anyway? We Gryffindors have clearly shown that we know our material ๐ And besides, wasn’t Slytherin also ahead of you in the House Cup that one year? ๐ค
Plus, the Quidditch cup wasn’t even affected by those extra points, so I guess Gryffindors just have natural talent on that pitch ๐ Or all Gryffindors except me, that is… I doubt I even could have pulled that Snitch swallowing maneuver, because that would have meant getting near the Snitch in the first place ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ

Cho had massive ptsd because her boyfriend was murdered! Naemi, you have the emotional range of a teaspoon!๐ And what do you mean, the Gryffindors have shown that they know their Material? That was just Defense against the Dark Arts! How useful do you think those Gryffindors were when it came to rebuilding and doing actual work that needs planning? Granger is the only one who has an ounce of intelligence in her bushy head, and she still ran off with that rascal Weasley! That dude was in a relationship with LAVENDER BROWN. She deserved better! And of course Slytherin was ahead of us- Greasy Snape kept deducting points from us as well! Also, about the Quidditch Cup: OF COURSE YOU WON AGAINST US! Potter had a friggin FIREBOLT! Thatโs like driving a race with a Fiat against a Ferrari! SO UNFAIR! And about that battle: how would it have ended if our house ghost hadnโt told Potter what to do? Huh? It was Helene RAVENCLAW who saved the day! Go Eagles!

Well, did I say Cho was in the wrong for crying after that DA-meeting? NO. But I’d argue that bursting into tears after Ginny caught the Snitch from her was more than just PTSD. And who are these Ravenclaws anyway, forcing a traumatized team member onto the Quidditch pitch and threatening her that she might have to quit playing because she was flying so badly? They clearly didn’t have any other decent players, so with their tweezer-sized emotional range, they put further pressure on the one good player they had left instead of helping her ๐ And look, Ron was obviously never into Lavender Brown! How could he be, after she gave him that atrocious necklace? It was all because he wanted to prove himself to Hermione, who did revert to similar tactics when she took CORMAC MCLAGGEN, of all people, to Slughorn’s party ๐ So I’d argue that the two of them are actually a great fit for each other ๐ Of course it isn’t going to be easy to tell a good friend that you like them – doing that could risk ruining the friendship – so a smart person should know that intelligent people can also make bad choices along the way!
Also, we Gryffindors did just as much work cleaning up as you Ravenclaws did, so I wouldn’t get all haughty if I were you. And Harry was already a far superior player on his Nimbus 2000. By your logic, the Slytherins should have won every game after Malfoys father bought all of them new broomsticks, but did they? No. Because a good broom only shows it’s potential in the hands of someone with great talent, that’s why! ๐
And I’ll admit – Helena did help us out, but it was us Gryffindors who did most of the work in that final battle! And besides, why do you feel the need to prove your superiority so badly? You know that is usually a sign of inferiority, right? All Nehal and I are trying to prove is that we Gryffindors are just as worthy as Ravenclaws! ๐

Well, I’d argue a Head of House is supposed to take care of their students and foster their talents… I guess Flitwick just didn’t think Cho was good enough to give her one ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Also, I didn’t cheat any more than Harry did when he asked the hat not to put him in Slytherin ๐๐คทโโ๏ธ The only question I didn’t answer completely truthfully was the one whether I valued bravery or intelligence more, but then again, I don’t really have a truthful answer. Because bravery without intelligence can be quite stupid (see McLaggen ๐), but then again, psychopaths can also be pretty intelligent, so I guess intelligence without compassion also sucks. But c’mon, I didn’t want to be in Hufflepuff, either! ๐๐๐

But then again, my siblings also grab the bigger portion for themselves any time they get the chance, so I don’t even feel guilty about it ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐๐๐ In fact, in my house, we have the rule that whoever cuts up a cake or something gets to choose their own piece last, just to make sure that they try to make the pieces as evenly sized as possible ๐ But yes, I thought that meme was too hilarious not to use here ๐คฃ

OK, this post…..was epic ๐๐!! The most entertaining thing that has happened to me since morning, and that says a lot coz I had physics exam today and chemistry tomorrow, so yeah….life’s good ๐.
I still can’t get over Riddhi’s comment on your “best selling book” post. It is enough to make me hyperventilate ๐. I laughed out so hard when I read you tweaked your choices to get gryffindor ๐๐, I remember the time I took the quiz, I got Slytherin and I was SO freaking depressed about it coz i wanted gryffindor ๐๐. And omg, how in tge name of Merlin’s beard do you remember the page number of the book you are reading!?!??? Teach us your skillzzz. Ha, I would totally give my sister the mug which has less juice ๐, I guess that proves the Slytherin result of th quiz. Oh I thought yohre an extrovert coz you share a lot of stuff about your life on your blog๐.
Anyways, this was an amazing post, and this is a pretty loooooong comment ๐๐ . Now I’m gonna go do something productive like…..study the periodic table…so yeah……… life’s certainly good ๐

And oh boy, I would have been devestated if I had gotten Slytherin! However, despite me also depraving my siblings of bigger food portions, I don’t think there would have been much danger of that… I just had to make sure I didn’t get Ravenclaw, because that’s probably where the Hat would have put me if I’d answered everything 100% honestly ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
As to the extroversion – I may share a lot about my life, but you may have noticed that many of my favorite activities involve a lack of other people ๐๐ So I guess the signs are there; though, yes – I am a lot more talkative in written form, so I can see what gave you that impression!
And I don’t know how I remember page numbers? But it can’t be any harder than the periodic table, right? So just think of this as practice! ๐๐

Almost afraid to touch upon this topic after seeing your comment section here… but I had you pegged as a Ravenclaw too! ๐ With all the things you’re so good at (languages, music, writing, math), it seemed obvious but I can see I was wrong ๐. And I feel you because I also tried to cheat the sorting hat, although I wanted Ravenclaw. Wasn’t very good at it, though, because I still got Hufflepuff ๐. And today I also think Hufflepuff was the more fitting one anyway, so I guess the sorting hat works.
Also, I’m sad to know you feel so anxious about not being able to keep up with what everyone posts, and therefore don’t necessarily like meeting new bloggers. From what I can tell, you’re amazing at commenting on everyone’s post. Like, I’ve never seen anyone put so much effort and thoughtfulness into that part of blogging. And maybe that’s the perfectionist in you coming through ๐ I can only speak for myself, but I definitely wouldn’t feel “let down” if you missed a few of my posts. Probably not going to help how you feel, but I thought you should know โค๏ธ

Haha, well, I think if I had to choose again today, I would probably embrace my nerdiness and pick Ravenclaw, too ๐ But the nostalgia attached to my Gryffindor memories is just too strong ๐ฅฐ Besides, getting into the Ravenclaw common room sounds like an absolute pain in the butt, so I guess I made a good choice avoiding that ๐
And don’t worry – your blog is one of my absolute favorites, so I’m much too curious as to what you’ve been up to to not click on a post of yours immediately when I see it ๐ It’s definitely not a chore for me! And since I drop by there so often, you might have a skewed impression of how much I really comment, because I definitely don’t read everyone’s posts as regularly ๐ However, I do think I would probably love a bunch of other blogs equally if I committed more time to them, because the better I know the blogger behind it, the more I will grow attached to their blog. But since I don’t have infinite time on my hands, there are just blogs that I’ll never get to know well enough to get to that point, and that makes me feel bad, because I know how much effort goes into blogging and I’m not even giving some people a chance ๐ Even if they make an effort to reach out to me. So I guess that’s what really makes me anxious. Because I do love all the blogs I read regularly and certainly wouldn’t keep returning if it was only for my perfectionism! You have so many skills and talents! I really admire you for them, especially for remembering page numbers and more than 3 digits of pi. I could never do that ๐. I also admire everyone who sent in these assumptions- one, because of how many of them got it right and two, because this is another thing I can’t do for some reason.
Honestly, who likes listening to their recorded voice? Skype sometimes returns my voice while I teach and I just want to apologise to everyone who has ever heard me speak ๐ .

Should I be concerned about the level of HP obsession in this comments section? ๐๐๐ I also may or may not have slightly altered my answers on that Sorting quiz to get Gryffindor, and somehow I still got Hufflepuff on every single attempt!! It was extremely depressing. I guess my true Hufflepuff tendencies just couldnโt be repressed…
And 60 digits of pi is more than I could even imagine memorizing!! The only digits I know are 3 and 1 and 4, and I count that as an achievement considering how bad of a memorizer I am ๐ And ahhh Iโm so excited to hear youโre learning Korean!!

That’s so cool that you can speak so many languages too. I’ve always wanted to try to pick up another, but I always end up giving up after a few days on Duolingo ๐.

My dog gets a lot of them and I’m an expert at tick removal, but they are gross. Not to mention the diseases they can give you… >:-(

I completely feel you on that! Our cats are also constantly getting them, and one of them in particular seems to have magically tick-attracting blood ๐ Even with a tick collar on, he can sometimes get as many as twenty a day, so I’ve also gotten really good at removing them ๐ But they’re disgusting!
Still, I hope this post didn’t bring up too many traumatizing tick memories, and I’m glad you thought it was interesting!
